I am sure that the AX5 is a perfectly serviceable camera but not sure of the benefits of being a mirrorless DSLR save for the live view of of the subject being taken. However, in many respects, it is no better than their Finepix bridge cameras that they make. Sure it has interchangeable lenses to suit the category of photographs being taken BUT their lenses are so expensive! The alternative is to use an X mount adapter but most of the available options are manual focus only - the automatic focus adapters are also very expensive, in essence making the option of forking out for a Fujinon less of an issue.

Even using manual settings sometimes this requires setting the camera's shooting mode to 'Shooting without a lens attached mode'. In use, it is not as straightforward as you might expect and so the shot sometimes cannot be taken due to a conflict in the settings (light, aperture, ISO etc). Perhaps these are fine for experienced amateurs, who are happy to tinker about with settings in order to get the perfect shot but it could easily mean missing that vital photo opportunity. The large tilting viewing screen at the back of the camera does indeed tilt up vertically so you can take selfies but a) part of the screen is obscured by the camera body and b) the image you can see is far too big to view properly. You would need very long arms to take a viable shot! Certainly it would require a remote shutter control to take the selfie.

As to style, this camera reminds me of the Leica camera of 40+ years ago. Of course the difference is digital Vs roll films and settings can be more automated but it feels heavy and awkward to handle.

There is nothing wrong with this camera in terms of actual performance but in my view, you have to work hard to get the best out of it.
