I just got the camera delivered. Unfortunately the microphone holder screws were missing.

I haven't had time to use the camera much yet, just charged the battery and switch it on to test its working running it on my table for a couple of hours. The image seems very clear (of a static cup on the table in fairly poor light) but I will be using it next week so will have a good idea how it operates by then.

Reading the instructions (downloaded online) It can be as technical as you want or as easy as you like in fully auto. There is an onboard microphone and its good but not fantastic if you like excellent sound. There is no 3mm connection for a mic with 3mm connection, but you can get a female xlr to female 3mm converter from Amazon if you need to (the one I got was - RØDE VXLR 3.5mm Minijack to Male XLR Adapter) for a couple of quid and that works fine.

My item was returned by a previous customer so has a couple of marks on it, which is a minor cosmetic and if I would have paid full price possibly I would have returned it too. I got cold feet and cancelled it myself prior to delivery, but speaking to Amazon support I was persuaded to have it because they provided a 2 year warranty, so glad I had it now.

I would imagine most consumers will be looking at this camera or a Blackmagic, 2 totally different but similarly priced products, but both filming in 4k. I chose the HC X1 because I did not want to be changing lens for each and every shot and wanted the option to fully configure manually or just let the camera do the work in full auto, with me just adjusted zoom.

I would recommend this camera if the larger camera size is not going to cause you problems, its not a holiday or whip out of your pocket camera. UHD is 50 or 25fps if I remember from instructions. No wifi and I tried 3 usb wifi devices and none work in it, so looks like you have to purchase the £150 Panasonic one (rip off and minus 1 star because of it).

You can do time lapse, slow motion, focus transition in camera to 3 points (but no zooming whilst transitioning, has to be same zoom point through all focus points). Text on LCD screen is tiny, but easily viewable in eyecup viewport. You can adjust WB, Gain -3 to something too high and noisy (sorry can't remember), 2 channel sound via 2 xlr ports or internal mic, usb 3 PC connector, HDMI, iris adjust, shutter adjust and more...

Hope you like it if you get one based on my review!

Great camcorder, excellent results even in low light. It's heavy but it's worth it for the quality of the footage. Could definitely recommend.

Got this for wedding videography as a secondary camera that could be left unattended for alternative angles. Great in well lit areas, but it's poor low light performance was a deal breaker for me unfortunately. Not suitable for professional wedding videography.
