I bought this tv after reading some very positive reviews about it. Unfortunately it has not lived up to expectations in my case and Amazon have kindly exchanged the product once. However the replacement TV is no better than the original. Below is a complaint l have tried to submit to TCL Customer Service which is a challenge in itself as the ‘l am not a robot' field is all in Greek and when the form is submitted you get a ‘page not found' error message.
“TCL 43DP648 43 Inch 4K Ultra HD TV with Freeview Play
I am experiencing on going problems with the tv's response time to the remote control. It can take up to 10 minutes to change channels. Once it took so long to change l had forgotten l had even tried and started watching the programme on the channel l was originally on. The remote was on the table so not close enough to touch it by accident. 20 minutes later the channel finally changed by which time l had missed most of the programme anyway. As it then took another 10 minutes to change back again so l missed the programme on the other side as well. It also constantly disconnects from the internet and changes the aspect ratio of the screen midway between programmes. It frequently crashes all together and has to be disconnected for several minutes before it will respond again.
We have changed endless batteries, updated the software and reset the tv as directed by your customer service department countless times and the problems remain.
I have complained to Amazon and they have changed the tv but the new one is just the same.
It is so unresponsive it is virtually unusable therefore l would be grateful if you would allow me to return it for a full refund.“
Brilliant TV. I'm not a super tech person so I'm not very picky really, so my review is for an average lay-person just needing a decent TV for occasional video games and Netflix watching. It's the perfect size for my flat's living room - It was easy to set up, I can see things like subtitles and gaming details clearly, the picture quality is lovely. The sound is good enough, I've had no problems with it at least, though I'm sure a sound bar would be better. This TV came recommended by a more tech person, and I'm glad I went with his recommendation.
Only slight annoyance is the frame bordering the bottom of the screen reflects light pretty strongly and I have yet to figure out a position for my living room light so it doesn't reflect off it right into my eyes when I'm sat at the couch. But in the grand scheme of things, that doesn't matter much.
I can't comment on the actual interface like connecting with wifi and how the apps work, since I just use Netflix/YouTube/Amazon Prime/etc. through my PS4, but at least turning the TV on/off isn't a bother (which my parents' older TV struggles with, since the interface has to work very hard just to even turn the TV on).
So My sister wanted a new TV (Yes, I was envious, as my Phillips LCD is going strong for 10 years, but I'd always like to upgrade).
I did the research and used her budget cost to narrow it down.
This one was a great choice and she loves it. Great controls, smart (internet connected) and very easy to use.
The picture quality is very good and very sharp.
Better than OLED and a lot less cost.
TV's will always be improved; get sharper; get smarter; just get one that you like and live with it for as long as possible (and this one is one of those), as the resources on this planet are finite, so resit the urge to upgrade unless you have a good reason to (Thanks Greta Thunberg)!!!
I can confirm that both Xbox One X and PS4 Pro look stunning on this. Amazing picture quality with good colour accuracy for this price. The sound is average at best but does the job, and most people will have a soundbar and/or speakers anyway! The remote control is a bit weird - Very long and thin but nothing you can't deal with. The TV is a looker too and doesn't look like a £300 TV at all. The fact that Amazon let me pay for this purchase in installments too is just the cherry on top of the cake. Would highly recommend this just as long as you don't expect everything to be top of the range quality. But for 300 notes you can't really go wrong!
Edit: (01.09.) Although the TV has a nice display and looks the part it's given me nothing but problems. The built-in apps constantly crash or don't work as they should, and my Wi-fi connection on the TV keeps going off randomly. I know the issue is not with my internet as I have three other smart TV's in the house (two Samsung and one LG) and none of them have the same issue. I'm now considering returning it while I still can as it's just become too tiresome to use sadly.
I use this with a PC & PS4 - The image quality in both HDR and SDR is amazing.
The response times aren't (to me) any different from a 'real' monitor.
This would be an ideal display except fo the problem of dead pixels. The TV arrived with several, however they were in the bottom-left edge and so did not cause much of a problem - however I have since acquired 3 that are centred in the
screen and these can be very distracting.
There is also a strange problem where the TV will decide to turn itself back on a few minutes after being turned off (long enough to turn off the computer and get into bed - the timing of it is quite annoying)
There does seem to be a lottery around whether you will get a defect-free panel or one that is bordering on being too
irritating to want to use. Which is a shame since the HDR and image quality is otherwise superb.
Considering I've never even heard of TCL until a few weeks ago, I decided to take a punt and went for the 50" version. And I was not disappointed. Got my Xbox One S and Sky Q mini connected and I've got to say the picture is amazing.
The speakers are a lot to be desired but they do the job but that can be said for most thin tv's but a half decent soundbar/soundstage will soon remedy that.
4K Blu-ray playback looks fantastic
Smooth gaming with very little input lag
Easy to setup
Dedicated Netfiix button on remote control! lol
No Amazon Video app. Really?
Speakers are a bit meh but I've heard a lot worse from the most popular brands
Remote control reactions a bit on the slow side but nothing to write home about!
