Bought to replace a Braun razor that had packed in after many years of use. This is a slightly updated model from the last one and gives a close shave. Only used it in dry mode but solid built and charges quickly. Doesn't operate while plugged into the mains via the standard two pin power cord. Shame it doesn't come with a travel case, although has a plastic guard to protect the blades plus a function to lock it whilst travelling. Overall pleased with this purchase.

I have very sensitive skin on my neck and have had massive problems with electric shavers in the past. With this one, I can shave close -dry, and not get any burn or rash. This is the 3 blade foil model and has very good performance on one charge - about 5 shaves. However, it does take me 8 to 10 minutes to get as close a shave as I like. I would like to have the 4 blade model, but at £300, it was too expensive. My brother was able to get the 4 blade model in the US on sale and with a manufacture's incentive for around $189.00, which is a MASSIVE difference in price!

This is a very solid machine for the price. I would like to get another Braun in the future, but come on Braun - make your pricing more reasonable in the UK!

I've not had this long but this is by far the best shave I have ever had to date.i have had some of the best well known brands before but none of them gave me the close shave I have had from this shaver.38 years I've had to wait to get this close shave and it was very quick too which also was comfortable and didn't leave my skin irritated and sore.time will tell with the battery life as not had it long enough yet.other have said in there reviews that this didn't give a close shave,I don't know why as I have quite course hair and mine was great.really happy with this and would recommend.

Paid about £50 in the Amazon pre-Christmas sale for this shaver. I have been a long time wet shaver, and so used to near perfection in a blade shave (at the expense of the occasional nick / bleed).
My circumstances dictated that an electric shaver might be more convenient, so I bought the entry level Braun Series 3. It was either this or a similarly priced Phillishave, but I read bad reviews about the quality of construction.

Result - I was so Impressed with the base model Series 3 that I took the plunge and bought a lovely Series 5 swivel head model for everyday. I keep the Series 3 as a spare at home.

The swivel head on the Series 5 - what mainly sets it above the Series 3 which has a triple cutter, sprung head, but not swivel, is flawless. It fulfils my everyday shave needs quickly and economically (charging once a week or longer).

I will finish by saying that this shaver has not produced a single nick or cut since I bought it, and it does indeed shave as close as a blade to the touch.

I bought this in 2017. I had it for about a year, using it near enough daily. I does give a close shave. However at around 11-12 months in, the battery was playing up. It wouldn't hold a charge and when plugged into the charger it wouldn't charge up at all. No problem, easy standard 1 warranty from Braun through Amazon, allowed me to send it off and they sent a new one as they couldn't fix it. Brilliant until this brand new unit also ended up after about 9 months playing up. It started with the battery only wanted to charge to 2 bars rather than full charge of 3 bars. I thought I could live with that but then 2 months later, even when charged it would stop shaving after about 2-5 seconds. Turn it on again and it would carry on for another 2-5 seconds. This became unbearable and I have ended up buying a Phillips Shaver. Braun just don't seem to have the battery quality right and it is not worth spending so much if its only going to last 9-12 months. I will see if Phillips is any better. First impressions of the Phillips is that it is a lot quieter, unless the Braun is just a very loud unit?

I would recommend if you buy the Braun to purchase amazons insurance so at least you know if it breaks after the one year warranty you can get a new one no problm.

After many years using Philips (rotary head) shavers I decided to try a Braun foil shaver, settling on the 5140s after lots of research and attracted by a very competitive price over Black Friday. Very simple to use and easy to clean although I'm not planning to use in the shower or with shaving foam - a key selling point. A good, close shave on the whole, although not perfect. In spite of my best efforts I'm still aware of some stubble around the throat/neck area even after multiple attempts in different directions stretching the skin to the point of discomfort. Early days but I have high hopes for battery life given the Li-on battery. Very noisy when compared to the Philips shavers I've used previously. No doubt I will become accustomed to this in time. Shame there is no travel case. A cheaper 3 series model I tried and returned came with one as standard.
