The only direct replacement for the single use A4 photo printer the Photo R285 I could find. It has worked well and has printed around 40 A4 pages of a booklet with each page 75% photographs on photo quality 175 gm paper, all on the set of Inks supplied which is pretty good. Printer is very compact but needlessly complex. Seperate Feed and Output trays a bit of a bind, but the 180 degree paper route works ok even with the 175 gm paper. A secondary front cassette appears to be superflous, and I have removed it meantime.
A third paper feed at the rear handles thick material one at a time. The Old R285 had one input for all materials , and a fixed output. Overall the R285 was much simpler, handles more or less all the same media, even super long panoramic prints, and l used it for 8-9 years. It was larger but overall the XP-55 is not an improvement. Yes it has WiFi which I do not require at present, but it will be interesting to see how it will last with use.
Sandy Webster.

Got the printer set up the same day it gave me errors the printer was not touched at all i set it up left it in my office when i came back it said error code 0x01 and everytime ive tried turning it on it would give the same error epson was no help through the call waited a week for a email that ive never gotten still. and to make things worse everytime it gave the error it kept wasting ink! i had just spent 200£ for 9 cartidges to end up wasting and not even using the system was up all teh ink as it kept on charing the cartidges each time it gavae the error when i turned it on also epson is a scam itself as there system says all the inks are ran out i take out the cartidges and i see more than a HALF ink in the cartidges yet the printer says ive ran out?

After ten days of continually reporting the problems with this printer's inability to print DVDs to Epson and having to jump through every possible hoop imaginable (yes the problem was always made out to be my fault) wrong apps, wrong inks, wrong drivers, wrong utilities, wrong print procedures and wrong of me to suggest the printer was faulty. I have wasted loads of extortionately expensive original inks and blank DVDs trying to get a faulty machine to print. I have uninstalled and reinstalled every app, driver and performed every possible combination of this over and over during the ensuing ten day period. Today, I finally have had enough of Epson (lack of) support and given up on this dreadful printer. Buyers beware, if your get one that doesn't work you will be strung along with every conceivable excuse known to man and still be no closer to having a working machine. Do I recommend this printer? NO I DO NOT. Do I recommend Epson for their support? NO I DO NOT. Will I be buying another Epson Printer? NOT A CHANCE. Am I a satisfied customer? NO!

The printer is compact (small for a A3) compared to my Epson Photo1500W. But alas the 1500 was showing signs of aging. A3 printing is via manual single sheet rear feed, acceptable but not brilliant, it will do multi sheet and poster printing but because it doesn't do borderless multi printing it's more time consuming doing large poster. It is a six(6) colour printer the reproduction is good, for the average user is acceptable. Speed is on par with the 1500W. Good points, Compact, seems well built, Price, Good value at the price I paid. Easy to set up. Bad points, Single sheet A3 rear feed.

A good printer but the Epson cartridges are a ridicules price. Two sets of their cartridges would cost nearly as much as the printer itself. I have taken advice NOT to update the software as it could make third party inks difficult to use.

I bought this before Christmas to replace an XP-950 which I had been using with few problems for almost 3 years. I have had so many errors, the latest of which is that "Maintenance Box is nearing the end of its service life". I have been using it for 45 days. The delivery date was the 12th November and it is now 27th December. In the same year just in case you thought I had a slip of my memory. After an online chat I was asked to contact their service centre. 1 and a half hours later I was still holding! I don't think I'll be buying Epson again.

Maybe you'll have a better experience :(
