This router is really good. It's so simple to set up. You plug in your Ethernet connection to the blue Ethernet port on the router, head into the TP Link app where you set it up and then you're ready to go. The app itself is really good, you're able to change the routers original name and password to your own, see who's connected to it, block users, use it as a router and there's even a mode where it can be used as a range extender of your original network. If you need to log into the router in the app, the username & password (standard on most routers) is ‘admin'. The router is quite small (which is expected for the price). It's nearly the size of my hand which means that it does lack range in terms of WiFi signal strength. If you're looking to use this as a main router for the house, I'd definitely consider the more expensive routers. But if you need a quick and cheap fix for your WiFi in a ‘dead zone' in the house, this is perfect. For an example of WiFi speed, my Ethernet plug is 50mbps and through WiFi on this router, I get between 40-45 mbps which is quite good.

As per many mentions on the web, I purchased this to resolve the issues I have been experiencing with the Virgin Media Hub3.

The setup itself was very easy so long as you follow the instructions others have written, and ensure you first change the default IP address of the new router to

I then put the virgin hub into modem mode, plugged this in to port 1 of the VM hub, and moved all my wired connections over to the new modem.

It took a couple of reboots of the virgin hub to get the internet side online, the red light on the VM hub confused me but all is well and has been totally stable for several days now. This is a promising start and I will update this review in time.

The router is alot more feature rich, and seems more powerful in it's functionality and operation. The Wifi signal so far is excellent on both 2.4 and 5Ghz. Speedtest shows there is no loss of performance on the internet side.

A very nice feature I found was that you can name the devices, this is of great help in finding out what is actually connected, rather than a list of IP or mac addresses.

I have yet to try any of the more advanced features such as QOS VPN etc but may try that in time. I'm just enjoying the stability.

Before I would loose random wifi devices, then it would grind to a hault and a reboot required. That reboot of the VM Hub could take up to 4 hours to complete and get back on line. Additionally, whilst this was going on all wifi and physical network ports were disabled for some reason so no access. Now I have wifi and internal wired networking seperated from the VM Hub side which is another great step forward.

Since getting Virgin Media, I've had endless WiFi issues. The VM Hub 3.0 constantly dropped out, with me having to turn WiFi off and on constantly and my work laptop (a ThinkPad) couldn't get a strong enough signal upstairs in my study.

I bought this Router and plugged it into my VM Hub 3.0. I turned on Modem Only mode on the Hub 3.0 and set up this router in Router Mode and I now get WiFi all over my house flawlessly, no dropouts at all so far after 24 hours.

Some further features I'm very glad to have:
I can now set up any WiFi password I like (including with spaces). For some reason, the VM Hub 3.0 was very limiting with what I could set as a WiFi password.
It also has DynDNS built-in, something I very much missed from my old PlusNet router.

Recommend this to everyone who is suffering with a bad WiFi connection to the router provided free by a TV / Phone provider.
You still need your ISP router but just disable the WiFi in its settings and plug this router into the network port and after a few settings you will be connecting your wireless devices at a far faster speed (I use the 5G connection as there is a lot less traffic / interference than on the 2.4G signal that that my old router used).

Follow the instructions provided as I first used a Youtube video (before buying) showing how to connect it and it didn't work.... after resetting I actually read and followed the provided instructions and I'm still kicking myself for not doing so in the first place, as it took about 5 minutes to setup and I didn't have to change any of the settings that the YouTube video told me to...DOH!

This was the third router that I had tried to work with (and replace the WiFi of) my Virgin SuperHub (which is super annoying!).

I got frustrated with poor WiFi speeds from the Virgin Hub as their “Intelligent Broadband” (a contradiction only comparative to Military Intelligence) balances the bandwidth of your WiFi in the house across all devices (including allocating unnecessary bandwidth so smart plugs).

So In came this router and the virgin hub went to modem mode.

Straight away, fired up... easy to setup in the wizzard and within a few mins (after a firmware update) the WiFi was up and pushing out stable download speeds of 350mbps (we have the top internet package for working from home).

The security on the router is easy to setup and adjust. Parental controls are epic for getting the teenagers in the house to do homework ???? and I've even plugged in an SSD to use as a family NAS drive for backups.

Dual band means that it works with smart devices for the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz is rapid for upload/download.

Since I've had this (about 3 months or more now I think) I've only had to reboot it once and I think even then it was the virgin modem that was the issue.

Worth the money!

If you are a virgin customer I would highly recommend this.

Bought this to replace the basic router I got from my service provider, worked fine for the first month then just stopped working. It will just randomly drop out and I have to disconnect and reconnect the device I'm using for it to work, this happens as often as every 2 minutes sometimes. It's happening multiple times a day but only on certain devices. Other times it will just start being really slow.

I've tried resetting it to factory settings about 3 times and nothing works. Going to switch back to the one I was using before.
