I had read many reviews of this radio noting that it has a very fragile assembly under the power slider, and that this slider is prone to breaking loose inside the casing and becoming useless. However, I decided to order it anyway, based on the otherwise outstanding reviews, the hope that maybe only some models have the flaw, and a YouTube video suggesting that a light touch on the slider will avoid breakage.

I have been using the radio happily for two weeks. It sounds wonderful, especially for its size (don't expect much in the way of bass, but audio is very crisp and well-balanced otherwise); battery life from a full charge is around 20 hours; it is VERY small, and build quality is generally excellent.

Excellent, that is, other than the power slider. I have been switching the radio on and off once a day for two weeks, and doing so VERY carefully. Despite this, it just broke, rendering the radio inoperable. This makes any mention of all the other good qualities pointless. It would be a wonderful radio if it wasn't fatally flawed. Awarding stars for its audio fidelity or portability is more or less pointless if the unit doesn't turn on.

Unless Sony acknowledge this issue, and either introduce an update, or a newer version with better build quality, I would steer clear of this radio.

I bought this to replace a failed Pure One - would have bought another if I could have found one.

When the box arrived I thought the radio must be on the small-side, then discovered half the box is taken up with instruction leaflets in a range of languages so the radio was even smaller than I thought (I know its dimensions are included in the description but that translates to me as "small", "medium" or "large").

I listen to the radio in bed at night so the three 'quick preset' buttons are very handy - R4, R5 and R4Extra - it would be nice if they were raised a bit more so I could find them and tell them apart on the dark. Lots of presets for 'lesser' stations. For my purposes sound quality / level is fine.

Although I've given it 5 stars there are a couple of minor minus-points. First, whenever I change the station or the volume the screen light comes on for about 20 seconds. I'm not sure what the benefit of this is for 'normal' listeners but it's just extra light during the night that keeps me awake. Second the built-in battery doesn't hold as much charge as the Pure One power pack did - I daresay the latter is a larger battery / store of electricity so that's to be expected but I'd vote for a slightly larger radio with a bigger battery.

Beautiful little radio if you're careful with the sensitive "on/off/hold" switch. I have had this a few weeks and love it, particularly the three big buttons on the top that allow you to quickly change between three DAB stations without searching a menu or seeking buttons on the front or side. But the best thing is it has a robust aerial. The Roberts pocket sports DAB has an easily breakable aerial. The Roberts has been back to its repair dept numerous times (at £27 a time) for the aerial to be repaired. I gave up on Roberts when they wanted £62 for an aerial and USB port repair. The Roberts cost me £85 years ago. The Sony cost £57. The two radios are about the same width and height but the Sony is a bit thicker. I don't mind because it still fits in my pocket. A great buy.

This Sony, purchased because it was once a Which best buy, lasted me four years, until, it fell on the kitchen floor and the on-off button (made of plastic) broke inside. Overall great little radio for the size with good sound not superb sound quality. When not locked (at the on off switch that eventually broke), the machine is fiddly and it easy to push the wrong button, most at the time the button that switches between FM and dab signal, Happened quite a few times (when holding, or just trying to increase the volume). So my final verdict is OK, but would have liked it to be a touch more robust. for the price. Also, given the price, it should have included world analogue receiver (AM and SW).

This was an Amazon warehouse deal on a product that is reported to have been opened before and had a blemish on the front. I could not tell .... it looks brand new and is spotless and packaged as new.
I actually have bought one before as a gift and thought I'd get this for myself. The warehouse deal was half price ( almost)
The radio is great, small and the sound quality is fine. Rechargeable and portable.

I've owned this quite expensive surprisingly small radio for 4 weeks and have used it most days. It's small enough to fit in the hand or in a pocket, yet has good reception and produces a surprising volume of speech or music from the single small speaker. Alternatively the earpiece socket provides a reasonable stereo output if required.

The autotune facility quickly found about 70 DAB stations (the radio is in the UK West Midlands), many of which can be accessed without extending the aerial to its full 50cm.
There are 3 presets or alternatively a convenient ‘bar' selector to quickly select any of the auto tuned DAB stations. I have yet to master how to handle FM autotuning, but the stations I have found appear to have satisfactory reception. The display provides sufficient information and the very small clock has kept its time.

As others have commented, the sliding on/off switch doesn't feel as if it would be strong enough to withstand a hefty shove. However it only requires a gentle push to toggle on or off and it will then spring back. Battery life used to be a problem with portable DAB radios but on this model the internal rechargeable battery lasts many hours.

I recommend this quality, compact, portable DAB radio .
